One of the 2-month-old twins injured in a July 4th collision on I-75 that left a teenager dead has been discharged from a local hospital.

The other twin remains in serious condition at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston but has shown improvement, Henry County Police Sgt. Joey Smith said Monday. The twins’ 4-year-old sister, ejected along with her siblings from a Ford Expedition after it slammed into a guardrail near Exit 219 on I-75 northbound, suffered numerous fractures but is expected to survive, Smith said.

Fourteen-year-old Victoria Goldware, of McDonough, died from injuries sustained in the crash. Goldware’s 16-year-old sister and the unidentified mother of the twins and 4-year-old were also injured but not seriously.

All were passengers in the Expedition driven by the 19-year-old sister of the Goldware teens.

Prosecutors plan to present findings from Henry police to a grand jury, which will determine whether the driver should be charged. Smith said a grand jury date has not been set.

Police said they believe the crash was caused by a combination of high speed and wet conditions. None of the injured children were properly restrained, Smith said.
