On Tuesday, Georgia Gwinnett College students and veterans lined the school’s sidewalks with U.S. Flags to honor all veterans for their service. Among more than 300 veterans and military students at GGC were veterans John Maison, Sean Casey and Derricus Chatman. The three also serve as officers in the student organization, Coalition of Veterans Engagement, Readiness and Trust (COVERT), a chapter of Student Veterans of America. COVERT has developed a relationship with the Lawrenceville VFW post and hosted a tribute “Run for the Fallen” on Tuesday.
Georgia Gwinnett College was recently recognized for the second year as a military-friendly school by Victory Media, and is listed by the organization at www.gijobs.com.
Deborah Reato, Georgia Gwinnett’s director of Veterans Success, is working with colleagues at other University System of Georgia institutions in forming the North/Central Georgia Student Veterans Coordinators group. Participating schools meet to discuss new and changing policies affecting military and veteran students, and to discover ways to improve programs and support.
