A $9.2 million contract for resurfacing of county streets was approved 5-0 on April 9 by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.

Baldwin Paving Company Inc. was awarded the contract as the low bidder.

This resurfacing contract consists of 23 roads to be paved, totaling 21.8 miles.

Because of the Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will pay about $5.6 million for this resurfacing.

According to the Transportation Investment Act, the county is required to match the GDOT grant funding with a minimum 30 percent match which will be around $3.6 million.

The resurfacing is expected to be completed by April 30, 2020.

Funding will come from the 2016 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
