A three-hour SWAT situation at a house near Kennesaw ended just before daybreak Friday when a man suspected in an overnight shooting surrendered to police.

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. at a home on Bozeman Lake Road off Cherokee Street, according to Cobb police Sgt. Dana Pierce.

Pierce told the Journal-Constitution that one person was shot and transported to a local hospital, and the suspected gunman was still inside the house at 5:45 a.m.

About 30 minutes later, the suspect came out and surrendered to officers, Pierce said.

Police still had Bozeman Lake Road closed at 6:45 as officers awaited a search warrant to go inside the home, Pierce said. Police were also awaiting animal control officers to arrive because there was a Rottweiler inside the home, he said.

Police had evacuated a couple of neighboring homes, and at one point, a SWAT officer could be seen lying on the ground beside a car just around a bend from the home where the shooting took place.

Pierce said negotiators were trying to contact the suspect.
