New flood hazard maps for Cobb County are ready for public review during an open house from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the Cobb County Water System Training Lab, 662 South Cobb Drive, Marietta.
The preliminary maps are the result of a multi-year project to develop accurate and detailed digital flood maps for the Etowah Watershed based on data from the latest mapping and modeling technologies, according to a county announcement.
These new maps reflect current flooding risks, replacing maps that are based on dated studies.
Revisions to these maps include residents and business owners in areas of unincorporated Cobb, Acworth, Kennesaw, Marietta and Smyrna.
Residents and business owners should be aware of how the maps changed and how the changes may affect new construction, rebuilding decisions and requirements for flood insurance.
No formal presentation will be made so that residents and business owners may visit at their convenience to view the new maps, understand how their properties may be affected, review their options and learn more about financial and material steps they may need to take to protect their investments.
