The final town hall meeting on a proposed tax increase for Cobb County residents will take place at 7 p.m. July 9 at Sewell Mill Library, 2051 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta.

Leading the discussion will be Cobb County Commission Chairman Mike Boyce who is proposing 8.46 mills instead of 6.76 mills, an increase of 1.7 mills.

That means $19.50 more per month - the same as an annual increase of $234 - on a house with a fair market value of $655,400.

The Cobb Board of Commissioners (BOC) also will hold three public hearings on the county millage and budget.

They will be held at 9 a.m. July 10, 6:30 p.m. July 17 and 7 p.m. July 25 in the BOC Room, second floor, 100 Cherokee St., Marietta.

The July 10 and 25 hearings will be a part of the BOC’s regular monthly meetings.

In a county statement, Boyce said he plans to present to the BOC a Fiscal Year 2019 budget “that will start the journey to restoring services cut during the recession and maintaining the county’s triple AAA rating.”
