The Cobb County Board of Education approved the 2016-17 budget that includes employee raises and no tax increases.

A 2.5 percent and a full step of 1.5 percent are raises that will be issued to all eligible employees.

An addition of 64 classroom teachers is included.

Also included is $10 million from the revenue reserve to yield a balanced budget.

Of the $986 million budget, 91 percent is comprised of salaries and benefits.

More than 15,000 employees and an expected enrollment next year of 113,613 make the Cobb County School District the largest employer in Cobb, the second largest school district in the state and 24th largest in the nation.
