The Cobb County Board of Commissioners agreed Tuesday to give a $40,000 donation to the Cobb County Safety Village Foundation for the $90,000 construction of a school building at the Cobb County Safety Village.
Other donations include $40,000 from the Cobb County School District and $10,000 from Marietta City Schools.
The new school building will accommodate up to 35 adults and also be used for programs for second- and fourth-graders.
Occupying 8 acres at 1220 Al Bishop Drive, Marietta, the Safety Village, with its reduced-scale buildings and streets and interactive activities, opened in 2009 to introduce safety education to around 20,000 Cobb school children annually from kindergarten, second and fourth grades.
Since 2013, the Cobb County Department of Senior Services has been offering safety education to ages 65 and over.
Last year, more than 400 seniors received instruction on fire safety, fall prevention and identity theft prevention at the Safety Village.
