Cobb Fire Station 17 at 3321 Ernest W. Barrett Parkway will be replaced.
For $5,556,812, the Cobb County Board of Commissioners recently approved a construction contract with John W. Spratlin and Son LLC.
Additional costs will be $550,000 for furniture, fixtures and equipment and $393,188 as a project contingency - all totaling $6.5 million.
Previous costs have been $178,600 for full architectural services and a $20,000 allowance for soil testing and survey to The Howell Group.
With the fire station’s replacement, annual operational costs will be $18,000 instead of the current $26,000 - an annual savings of $8,000 since the new fire station will be larger and more energy efficient.
Future capital lease principle and interest payment will be budgeted in the Fire District Fund, beginning in Fiscal Year 2020.
Next the commissioners will decide on financing for the fire station replacement.
