The Cobb Municipal Association has elected its 2017 officers.

Elected to a one-year term were President Ron Fennel (Smyrna), Vice President Philip Goldstein (Marietta), Secretary Patrick Bordelon (Powder Springs) and Treasurer Valerie Anderson (Austell).

Each of these officers will be serving their second consecutive term.

The 2016-17 Georgia Municipal Association President Boyd Austin, mayor of Dallas, updated the group on the “tri-state water wars” issue, citing that GMA has filed an amicus brief on the side of the State of Georgia in the long legal battle over water use in the southeast region.

Current and future growth in the metro region are dependent on the outcome of this decision, Austin added.

The Cobb Municipal Association is a nonprofit trade association comprised of the local elected officials (mayors and City Council members) from each of the six municipalities in Cobb County - Acworth, Austell, Kennesaw, Marietta, Powder Springs and Smyrna.

The 2017 schedule for meetings - hosted by each of the six cities - will be Feb. 21, April 11, June 13, Aug. 15, Oct. 10 and Dec. 12.
