A 72-year-old Marietta man accused of causing a crash that killed a motorcyclist turned himself and quickly bonded out Monday.

Alfred Onken faces a second-degree misdemeanor vehicular homicide charge in the death of Jeffrey Hinkle, a 52-year-old Powder Springs man, police said.

A second-degree vehicular homicide charge is defined by Georgia code as being an unintentional death.

Onken was heading west on Dallas Highway when he went through a red light at Old Hamilton Toad and collided with the blue 2012 Suzuki GSX-R about 12:20 p.m on July 10, according to a warrant.

Hinkle was taken from the scene, near The Avenue West Cobb, to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where police said he was pronounced dead.

Onken spent 4½ hours in jail before be bonded out, paying $5,720, jail records show.

His next scheduled court date was not immediately available online.
