Cobb man seriously injured after van collides head-on with dump truck

A 59-year-old Marietta man was seriously injured after his minivan collided head-on with a dump truck Thursday, Cobb County police said.

The man was driving a gold 2005 Chrysler Pacifica north on Atlanta Road near West Atlanta Street when at 11:30 a.m. he, for an unspecified reason, crossed over the double yellow line and collided with a red 1999 Mack dump truck, cops said.

A silver 2015 Nissan Sentra that was behind the Mack truck swerved to avoid the crash and ended up also hitting the minivan.

The injured Marietta man was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital.

The Mack truck driver, a 54-year-old Smyrna man, wasn’t injured, but police arrested him on a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge.

The Nissan driver wasn’t injured.
