Cobb man ejected, killed when car crashes into tree

A Cobb County man was killed early Saturday when he was ejected from his vehicle after it crashed into a tree.

According to Cobb police, Jony S. Hernandez-Funes was driving a black 2003 Audi TT southbound on Hicks Road near Swamp Fox Way around 6:17 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a left curve.

The Audi left the right side of the road, struck a mailbox, continued to travel on the shoulder, crossed a driveway and collided with another mailbox, Cobb police said.

The Audi re-entered the street, traveled across Hicks Road, struck a concrete curb, traveled onto the sidewalk and struck a tree before overturning and landing on its top.

Cobb police said Hernandez-Funes, 24, of Mableton, was ejected from the car and died at the scene. His next of kin has been notified.

No other details have been made available at this time.
