A Cobb County Krystal restaurant has improved its food service score after receiving a jaw-dropping failing grade last week.

The fast food restaurant at 725 Veterans Memorial Highway in Mableton received a 90, or A, on its April 8 follow-up inspection. That inspection was scheduled after Krystal received a 63, or U, on its April 4 report. Anything below a 70 is considered failing.

The inspector conducting the follow-up noted the restaurant had packets of food and a bag of grease that were left open and uncovered.

Krystal was also penalized on the latest inspection for having debris on lids used for food storage containers, storage shelving, under storage racks and areas around the front service counter.

Georgia has rules it requires every food service operation to follow. These are just a few of the many health and safety regulations. Food service operations without a permit are illegal. Employees must know how to prevent foodborne illness and the symptoms of those illnesses. Food must be kept at the correct temperatures to prevent pathogens from growing. Employees must meet standards of cleanliness while working around food. If health laws are not met, the food service's permit may be suspended.

This Krystal location is scheduled for a demolition and rebuild, which the regional manager said will happen in late 2019 or early 2020, the report indicates.
