The Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 to turn down a rezoning request for a senior living and commercial development in west Cobb.

Delayed since December, this matter also was recommended for unanimous denial by the county’s planning and zoning commission and by county staff.

Columbia Properties Capital had plans to construct this development at the northwest intersection of Dallas Highway and Garrison Commons next to Lowe’s and Home Depot.

At Tuesday’s meeting, 74 showed up in opposition - backed up by more than 1,100 signatures against the rezoning from nine of 10 residents of the three adjacent subdivisions of Garrison Ridge, Heritage Oaks and Chestnut Ridge.

Among the concerns for the 24-acre development, owned by Herbert A. Collins since 1963, were leveling of the ridge, storm runoff and increased traffic.
