A Cobb County teacher has been chosen to join a group that sets curriculum used by students all over the world.

Debby Taylor works as a computer lab instructor in Mountain View Elementary in Marietta, and was picked for the Hour of Code Review Committee, the Cobb County School District announced Tuesday.

“I really enjoyed helping decide what tutorials and lesson plans made the cut for this year’s Hour of Code event,” Taylor said in a news release.

Hour of Code began as an hour course to demystify coding for students. Now, it's parent organization, Code.org, says it has put coding into the classrooms of more than 180 countries. The hourlong courses are available in 45 countries.

And Taylor was one of 15 teachers worldwide asked to join this advisory committee.

She spent the first part of the school year setting curriculum and, in the end, picked more than 200 activities for the website.

Taylor learned about the larger organization during her first year as a computer lab instructor and fell in love with coding. She hosts an Hour of Code event every year at the school.

“Our children live in a world where technology truly is changing everything. So they deserve a chance to learn computer science,” she said.
