South Cobb residents are invited to attend an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 27 at South Cobb Recreation Center, 875 Riverside Parkway, Austell about the major water main replacement project starting this summer along Cardell Road and South Gordon Road.
Freese and Nichols, the contractor, will host this open house about this project of the Cobb-Marietta Water Authority.
The project will replace about four miles of a 36-inch water main along Cardell Road and South Gordon Road between Mableton Parkway and Old Alabama Road, according to a Cobb County statement.
Installed in the 1960s, the original water main has reached the end of its service life.
In order to maintain reliable service to the area, the water main needs to be replaced, the statement added.
Construction will begin this summer, and completion is expected in mid-to-late 2021.
The construction will require lane and road closures at various times.
These closures will be coordinated with the Cobb County Department of Transportation.
