A cloudy Monday will greet students in Gwinnett, Douglas, Butts, Coweta, Heard, Henry, Lamar and Pike counties, as well as the city of Atlanta, as they return to school.

Expect "clouds and a few isolated showers to start the day on Monday, but much better rain chances by Monday afternoon," said Channel 2 Action News Meteorologist Brad Nitz, "and through the evening, showers and thunderstorms will become much more numerous." Nitz reports a 60 percent of showers on Monday.

Tuesday will be a repeat: cloudy with a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, Nitz said.

But there's a silver lining in those clouds. The five-day forecast shows temperatures cooling down into the 80s from the high 90s, Nitz said. Mornings will reach the pleasant low 70s.
