The head of Clayton County’s senior services program is in the Clayton County jail on forgery and bribery charges.

Mary Byrd turned herself into police Friday after authorities executed search warrants on The Clayton County Senior Services Center and Byrd’s home. She faces 13 counts of forgery and one count of bribery.

The investigation was prompted after Clayton comissioners filed a police report after getting complaints of financial improprieties at the senior center. The 56-year-old Fayette County resident faces a 9 a.m. first-appearance hearing Saturday in magistrate court in Jonesboro.
