Decatur held its first meeting to tackle diversity issues, in what the city hopes will lead to creation of a “community action plan.”

About 12 people showed up to discuss initial ideas for structuring a leadership circle.

“We have to determine what the process is and how we’re going to reach people in the community,” said Linda Harris, Decatur’s assistant director of Community and Economic Development.

The plan stems from concerns over alleged racial profiling incidents by city’s police department, although it will actually cover a much broader spectrum of diversity including economic disparity, disabilities and age disparity.
