A conditional use request for a local church was denied Feb. 20 by the Henry County Board of Commissioners.

Leslie Morrison appealed a previous decision by the county’s Zoning Advisory Board that was handed down in May of 2017. The site in question is 4.5 acres of land at 648 Ward Road in the northern end of the county, just west of Hwy. 155. A house already sits on the property, and the applicant sought approval to use the existing home as a parsonage and construct a freestanding church building on the site with about 5,000 square feet of space.

A motion to uphold the ZAB’s ruling passed with a 5-1 vote, as Blake Prince cast the lone dissenting vote.
