A boy rescued from a pool at an Atlanta Westin Saturday was fighting to live Monday.
Stephen Akinlabi, 10, was rushed to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite after he fell into a pool and nearly drown while attending a birthday party, his parents told Channel 2 Action News.
Police told the boy’s parents the hotel didn’t have any video surveillance.
Atlanta police spokesman Lukasz Sajdak said police learned of the incident just before 10 p.m. Saturday and at 2 a.m. Sunday the child was alive, but in critical condition after being rescued from a pool at The Westin Peachtree Plaza.
The four-star Westin hotel is located at 210 Peachtree St. NW in Atlanta.
The Westin Peachtree Plaza General Manager, Ron Tarson, said the staff’s thoughts are with the boy’s family.
“We do not have any additional information at this time,” Tarson said in an emailed statement. “We’re deeply saddened by this event and our hearts and thoughts are with this young man and his loved ones.”
On March 22, a 61-year-old East Point woman was found dead at the same Westin, after getting locked in a walk-in freezer.
