The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has approved spending $270,000 to purchase and outfit a trailer for use as a Mobile Workforce Workshop.
The Cherokee Office of Economic Development requested the funds, saying the Cherokee Workforce Collaborative has been gearing up for a skilled professionals awareness campaign.
Thirty percent of Cherokee students graduate from high school without plans to attend college, officials said.
“Our mobile unit … will provide hands-on experience with skilled professions while showing the jobs in depth to a live audience,” Misti Martin, president of the Office of Economic Development, said in a report to commissioners.
The department plans to raise funds through its Cherokee By Choice capital campaign to cover operations, but needs $270,000 to buy and outfit the trailer.
“The Workforce Workshop tour will feature a customized, interactive trailer loaded with information, skills challenges and more as it makes its way across Cherokee and the region, visiting companies, schools and community events,” Martin said.
