Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia Department of Community Supervision officials made a half-dozen arrests recently during a verification check of the more than 200 sex offenders living in Cherokee.

Sheriff’s Lt. Jay Baker said 86 homes listed as housing sex offenders were searched during the two-day operation and that a number of electronic devices were seized for later inspection that could lead to additional arrests and charges.

Baker said those arrested were from Woodstock, Canton and Waleska and were picked up on charges ranging from probation violation and violation of the sex offender registry to illegal drug and weapons possession. Five of the six were in custody with no bond set.

Baker said officers verified the residences of 128 offenders during the operation.
