The Cherokee County School District’s credit ratings have improved for the second consecutive year, and the one from Standard & Poor’s now approaches the coveted AAA rating, district officials announced.

Standard & Poor’s upgraded the district’s credit rating to Aa with a Stable outlook from Aa-, and Moody’s raised it to Aa2 Stable from Aa2, officials said.

“We continue to make steady progress toward a perfect rating, and along the way, the improvements are benefiting our community, as an improved credit rating lowers costs for insurance and borrowing,” said schools Superintendent Brian V. Hightower.

Hightower cited continuing improvements in the Office of Financial Management under Chief Financial Officer Kenneth Owen, and an improving local and state economy. Information: https://bit.ly/2vS5fLq
