The Cherokee County School Board has let a $207,500 contract to construct security foyers at six elementary schools, the second phase of a project to enhance the safety of students.

Womack, Lewis & Smith was awarded the contract to install the new foyers at Clark Creek ES Stem Academy, Hasty and Oak Grove ES Fine Arts Academies and Indian Knoll, Knox and Woodstock elementary schools. Additional phases are planned to further secure other schools, officials said.

The project will create a second layer of front entrance doors to better monitor visitor access. The first phase of the work had Womack install the foyers at eight schools.

“We were pleased we had a bid and pleased it was a strong bid,” said schools Superintendent Brian V. Hightower. Though Womack’s was the only proposal submitted, it was for less than the amount budgeted by the School Board, he said.
