A free United States Tennis Association (USTA) training workshop for elementary school physical education teachers and free equipment for the schools are among the benefits of a renewed partnership between the Cherokee County Board of Education and Cherokee Tennis Association.

Under the agreement, approved recently by the School Board, elementary schools that agree to become USTA members and teach four weeks of tennis curriculum for two school years would receive free equipment and curriculum. The Tennis Association also would sponsor an end-of-year tennis festival for participating elementary schools, and provide career day speakers.

The school district, in turn, would promote Tennis Association programs and events. Both parties also agreed to explore professional development opportunities and pursue joint grant opportunities.

The agreement runs through Dec. 13, 2019, and automatically renews for additional terms of up to five years.
