One of five candidates for a vacant position on the Cherokee County Board of Education has withdrawn his name from consideration.

Sanford Chandler, a former president of Chattahoochee Technical College, sent an e-mail to the school board attorney withdrawing his application for the Post 1 unexpired term. Chandler didn’t respond to an e-mail from the AJC asking why he took himself out of the running.

The list leaves four other candidates who live within Post 1 territory under consideration: Rob Logan, James Nicholson, Kelly Poole and William Wuth. The school board will consider making a selection at its meeting Thursday night.

The seat opened up last month when former Post 1 member Kyla Cromer was tapped to serve as board chair, replacing Janet Read. Her unexpired term runs until Dec. 31, 2016.
