As they did earlier this month with the ACT test, high school seniors in Cherokee County’s Class of 2018 performed strongly on the SAT exam – outscoring the previous class, exceeding national and state averages, and coming in near the top of metro Atlanta counties, district officials announced.

Cherokee students posted an average, total SAT score of 1122 – 73 points higher than the national average and 68 points higher than the state average, and up from last year’s 1121 on the college entrance and placement exam, officials said.

The SAT test consists of two 800-point sections: Evidence Based Reading & Writing and Mathematics. A writing exam is optional. Cherokee's average score in reading was 569, and in math, 553. Information: https://bit.ly/2D5u35c

Elsewhere in metro Atlanta, Forsyth students scored 1167; Fayette, 1142; Cobb, 1107; Gwinnett, 1102; Fulton, 1091; DeKalb, 998; Atlanta Public Schools, 997; and Clayton, 962.

“Stellar SAT scores like these show us that our teachers are readying students for the academic challenges of college and equipping them with verbal and math skills critical for climbing the career ladder,” said Cherokee schools Superintendent Brian V. Hightower.
