Cherokee County firefighters assisted Pickens County authorities Monday as they fought a fierce house fire.
Firefighters arrived on-scene at 285 Lawson Federal Drive off of Yellow Creek Road around 9:30 a.m. Monday. The four occupants of the home escaped without injury, but the blaze destroyed the center portion of the structure while doing smoke and water damage elsewhere.
Cherokee County Engine 15 from the Mica fire station helped Pickens County knock down the fire, which started after a kerosene heater was left unattended.
