The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has approved spending $133,424 to buy additional fire-fighting breathing gear for the Cherokee Fire and Emergency Services Department.

The county will acquire up to 10 self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and as many as 82 air cylinders from Fisher Scientific, according to a staff report to commissioners.

The county issued a request for proposals in 2017 for Scott face pieces, SCBA and cylinders, staff said. As part of the RFP, pricing was requested for the initial purchase with an option to buy additional equipment for three years.

Fisher Scientific submitted the lowest-price, highest-scoring proposal, staff said.
