Giving staff more time to work on changes to the Cherokee County zoning ordinance, the Board of Commissioners has adopted a 30-day moratorium, until Nov. 16, on accepting applications or plans for building, land disturbance or tenant occupancy permits on property zoned for agriculture.
The moratorium does not apply to single-family homes or accessory buildings, places of worship, schools or telecommunications towers, officials said.
“This moratorium will allow time for the development of AG Special Use regulations following the adoption of a new Article 18 — Amendments and Zoning Procedures” of the zoning ordinance, officials said in a news release.
“It’s basically a time-out so the county can take additional steps to review Article 18,” County Attorney Angela Davis told commissioners at their recent board meeting.
Commissioners also approved a public hearing for Nov. 7 on the new Article 18 and extending the moratorium to Jan. 16.
