The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has approved 2018 millage rates for the county and school district totaling 28.588 mills, reflecting significant rollbacks in the county’s portion of the property tax bill.

Commissioners approved a net countywide maintenance and operations millage rate of 5.366 mills, a complete rollback; a fire fund millage of 3.269 mills; and a park bond millage of 0.503 mills, less than the rollback rate of 0.562 mills.

The total millage for the general government, fire district and park bond is 9.138 mills. A home assessed at the county average, $256,300, would see a total county government tax bill of $910, down $22.38 from last year, according to a county budget presentation.

The school millage rate, approved last month by the Cherokee Board of Education, is 18.95 mills for maintenance and operations and 0.5 mills for bonds, for a total school millage of 19.450 mills.
