The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners have awarded a $1.29 million contract to expand the Cherokee County Senior Center in Canton.
Ward Humphrey Inc., general contractor, submitted the lower of two bids received by the county for the Senior Center project at 1001 Univeter Road, according to a staff report to commissioners.
“The addition is approximately 4,500 square feet and will provided much-needed working space to the Senior Center,” staff said.
Commissioners approved Ward Humphrey’s bid plus a county-controlled contingency of $155,000. The project will be funded by about $1.1 million in SPLOST 2012 funds and $159,640 in federal Community Development Block Grant funds. Wiley Wilson, project architect, will act as the county’s representative to the project.
Except for certain offices, the senior center is to be fully open and operational to the public and staff from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, the construction agreement says. Work is to be completed within 240 calendar days of the notice to proceed.
