Cherokee OKs $436K contract to plan road to airport

Cherokee County is moving to the next phase of planning a more direct connection to Cherokee County Airport with the award of a $436,600 preliminary design contract for a Heard Road extension.
The professional services agreement with Vanasse Hangen Brustlin (VHB) Inc. calls for the engineering consultant to study three of five phases of the proposed roadway: Phase 1, from Bluffs Parkway to Heard Drive/Fate Conn Road; and Phases 4 and 5, from the intersection of Airport Drive and Wes Walker Memorial Drive to Bishop Road.
All three phases are on county-owned land, according to a staff report to commissioners. The intent is to finalize the right-of-way and construction limits of the roadway, and dedicate the right-of-way for future construction.
“VHB will review collected information and previous studies, meet with the county and key stakeholders, validate and refine the conceptual design, prepare survey databases, and develop right-of-way plans and preliminary construction plans,” staff said.
