Record enrollment and no apparent operational glitches marked the first day of the 2015-2016 school year in the Cherokee County School District.
Spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby said 40,141 students showed up for the first day at the district’s 44 school and media centers. She said that number is expected to grow to more than 41,500 through the school year.
Jacoby said no campus operational or bus transport problems marred the initial day, which saw two school physical-plant updates debut; a new car rider dropoff and bus entrance at Hickory Flat Elementary School and technology and seating upgrades to the media center at Sixes Elementary.
Another project renovating the auditorium at Etowah High School is expected to finish up this fall.
