Cherokee County’s six traditional high schools have earned state of Georgia recognition as 2016 Advanced Placement Honor Schools for outstanding performance on and participation in AP exams. Officials said the schools have been named to the list each of the past six years.

The schools were lauded in four different categories, with Cherokee, Creekview and River Ridge high schools named AP Merit Schools. Various campuses were also honored in the STEM school, STEM achievement school and humanities categories.

Also, the high schools were recently awarded 2016 AP Teacher Training Grants to train advanced placement teachers at summer institutes. The grants are for $1,560 or $800, depending on the campus.
