The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners is moving to extend by 60 days a moratorium on permits affecting land zoned for agricultural uses.

The board set a hearing for Feb. 6 to extend the moratorium adopted last November on accepting applications or plans for the issuance of land disturbance permits, building permits or tenant occupancy permits on AG-zoned land. Exceptions are allowed for single-family homes or accessory buildings, places of worship, schools and telecommunications towers.

The current, 90-day moratorium ends Feb. 5. When it was adopted, Cherokee officials said it would allow time to develop AG special use regulations following the adoption of a new Article 18 – Amendments and Zoning Procedures of the zoning ordinance.
