Cherokee County has agreed to work with the Allatoona Rowing Association on installing a dock for crewing activities at Cherokee Mills Park on the Little River, a tributary of Allatoona Lake.

The low-profile dock and access would go into an under-utilized part of the park, staff said in a report to the county Board of Commissioners.

The Rowing Association would be responsible for raising funds for construction and for maintaining the dock, while the county would take care of routine maintenance such as grass mowing and taking care of the existing access road and gate, according to an agreement approved by commissioners.

The proposal now goes to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for review and approval. “Once the implementation plan is approved by the USACE, county forces will make the necessary improvements to the area, and (the Rowing Association) will install the dock per the agreement,” staff said.
