Commuters in Cherokee, Cobb and north Fulton counties can rejoice.

Cherokee is set to get its first Krispy Kreme location, said Brantley Day, Woodstock's director of community development.

The corporate store will be at 9420 Highway 92, which is the site of a gas station that has been abandoned for well over 10 years, Day said.

Day said that the location, which already sits by a traffic light, is convenient for many of they county's west-to-east commuters heading to Cobb and North Fulton along Highway 92 and I-575.

Woodstock zoning and city officials approved the last bit of paperwork — a zoning appeal to have Krispy Kreme's classic roadside green-and-white sign with red lettering — on Nov. 14.

Day doesn't know when the store will open. "We haven’t gotten that word yet."

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
