The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has approved requests for a rezoning and concurrent variance to allow the construction of a gymnastics facility on Hickory Flat Highway.

Bereznev Holdings LLC requested a rezoning from R-80 (Estate Residential) to NC (Neighborhood Commercial) for 4.8 acres at 7768 Hickory Flat, Woodstock; and a concurrent variance to eliminate a 30-foot zoning buffer on the west side of the property, citing natural buffers already in existence, according to a staff report to commissioners.

Bereznev wants to build a single-story, 16,000-square-foot, recreational sports center and gymnastics facility with 78 parking spaces, county documents show.

The project had a public hearing before the county Planning Commission on Aug. 6, and the commission recommended approval of the applicant’s requests.
