The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has approved "Bringing Our Vision to Life," a strategic plan for parks and recreation that sets priorities, goals and key performance measures for the next five years.

The plan is based on recommendations in the 2019-2028 Cherokee County Recreation, Parks, Green Space & Trails Master Plan and input from staff, the Recreation & Parks Advisory Board and other stakeholders, according to a staff report to commissioners.

Priorities of the master plan include building the L.B. Ahrens Recreation Center at Cherokee Veterans Park; replacing or renovating aging playgrounds; adding more seating and cabanas to the Aquatic Center; forming a non-profit parks foundation; and achieving national accreditation.

Also, completing an evaluation of athletic field use fees; converting natural grass athletic fields to artificial turf; creating a dog park in north Cherokee County; and expanding outdoor programming and summer camp opportunities. To view the document: https://bit.ly/3e5S0rk
