A public hearing is set for the next Cherokee County Board of Commissioners meeting on several ordinance changes governing the county’s parks.
Parks director Bryan Reynolds said one proposed change would ban smoking, including e-cigarettes, within 25 feet of picnic areas, playgrounds, athletic fields and basketball and tennis courts, including spectator areas. Reynolds said currently, the only restriction on smoking in county parks is the state’s ban on lighting up in public buildings.
Another change would specifically require dogs to be leashed within parks and would spell out provisions for off-leash areas within dog parks. Reynolds said right now there’s nothing in the county’s ordinances regarding such animal control.
The hearing is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday during the regular commission meeting at the county administration building, 1130 Bluffs Parkway, Canton. Reynolds said the changes could be adopted immediately thereafter.
