Canton-based Universal Alloy Corp. said it’s bought 44 acres of land in the north Cherokee County town of Ball Ground for a future expansion project.

The Cherokee Office of Economic Development said the site was chosen from a list of eight possibilities it presented to the company last year. Cherokee officials said the development will enable the company to expand contractual work it does for the Boeing Company.

Universal Alloy manufactures several components used to build airplanes, from wings to cabin floors.

The company hasn’t firmed up a date for construction or specified how employee numbers will increase as a result.
