The former campus of Henry County Middle School, which was closed down after the new McDonough Middle School opened in the fall of 2019, will be transformed to house a variety of programs for the school district.

The Henry County Board of Education voted at its Dec. 9 regular business meeting in favor of a recommendation to repurpose the facility “as a professional learning, employee training, adult learning and student support facility.” Its new official name is Henry County Schools Learning and Support Center at Henry County Middle. Potential plans for the facility include support services, adult education programs, professional development for current employees, and training for parents to support their students, among other possibilities.

As a condition of the $10 million received from the state for the construction of McDonough Middle, the HCMS campus cannot be a permanent daytime location for students but is usable for any of these other programs, according to officials. The gymnasium is already being leased to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia.
