Three ceremonies are scheduled this week for Decatur High historian and all-around Renaissance man Eddie Fowlkes who died April 1, after a 19-month battle with brain cancer.

A remembrance ceremony featuring several members of Fowlkes’ family is set for about 6 p.m. Thursday at McKoy Park, 534 McKoy Street, Decatur, between innings of the Decatur High-Cedar Grove regional tournament baseball game. A remembrance run honoring Fowlkes is 8 a.m. Saturday at Winnona Park Elementary, 510 Avery Street, Decatur. Everyone is welcome.

A service for Fowlkes is 11 a.m. Saturday at North Avenue Presbyterian Church, 607 Peachtree Street, Atlanta.

Fowlkes, 62, was a graphic artist, learning the craft from his grandfather who ran Rice Printing near Georgia Tech. He joined the Decatur High faculty in the late 1970s, taught graphic arts, was long-time cross country coach (the Winnona run features his old course), baseball coach from 1982-2002, and was the century-old school’s official historian.

In recent years he also gave acclaimed, anecdote-rich tours at Turner Field.
