Central Library in Downtown Atlanta Prepares to Close for Renovation

The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System will close the Central Library and Library System Headquarters on Monday, July 2 to begin extensive renovation work, according to a press release. As part of the library’s Capital Improvement Program, Phase II project, the facility will be closed for approximately 18 months to two years. The last day of service at the Central Library will be Sunday, July 1 for the regularly scheduled hours of 2 – 6 p.m.

Cooper Carry contracted with Fulton County to provide design services for the Central Library renovation project. Heery/Russell is the program management team. A request for proposals for construction and engineering services is expected to be released by Fulton County in the coming days.

During construction various aspects of the services available only at the Central Library will be moved to neighboring locations. Final plans for relocated services will be available at www.afpls.org when temporary work spaces are finalized.
