Gwinnett County’s favorite groundhog is turning 9 years old, and the Gwinnett Braves want you to come celebrate.

The Atlanta Braves’ AAA affiliate will be honoring their mascot, Chopper, at their Aug. 12 game. Mascots from all around metro Atlanta will be at Coolray Field to celebrate.

The 10 mascot guests will include Maximus of the Atlanta Gladiators, Stinger of the Georgia Swarm and Pounce of Georgia State University. Guests can get pictures and autographs from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. at the stadium’s main concourse.

The mascots and Chopper will be featured in a “grand entrance” at the end of the first inning. Visitors who want to maximize their time with the mascot horde should arrive promptly, though; most of the mascots will have to leave after the third inning, said Jillian Ward, the team’s community affairs and promotions manager.

Chopper has gotten birthday gifts from fans in the past, including cards, T-shirts and even gift cards.

“He loves getting them and posts them to his social media,” Ward said.

Enjoy Chopper's birthday at the Gwinnett Braves' Saturday game against the Louisville Bats. The game begins at 6:05 p.m and tickets are available on the team's website.
