Dozens of properties all over Henry County are being repaired and improved through the county’s Community Development Block Grant program, as reflected by information given at the Sept. 4 regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners.

The county receives an average of $1 million per year from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, according to CDBG officials, with a total allocation of $5,909,971.22 from 2012 to 2017. Expenditures have amounted to $4,926,209.17 during that timeframe. CDBG funding is used to benefit low- to moderate-income families in three areas: public services; public facility and infrastructure improvements; and rehabilitation assistance. Every few years a consolidated plan is prepared identifying community needs, which are met through partnerships with nonprofits and municipalities as well as an in-house rehab program.

The report indicated more than 100 housing units in various locations have been improved along with several community sites.
