Canton woman accused of stealing $12K from PTA
A Canton woman was arrested Monday and charged with stealing from a PTA and booster club, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Kim Turman, 40, was the treasurer of the Indian Knoll Elementary School PTA and the Sequoyah High School Girls Booster Club, Cherokee sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Jay Baker said. She’s accused of stealing $12, 448 from the PTA over a two-year period ending in 2012. That same year she’s alleged to have pilfered $5,882 from the booster club.
Turman is charged with two counts of felony theft by taking, Baker said. She was released Monday night on a $52,000 bond.
The missing money was uncovered during an audit by the Georgia PTA, said Barbara Jacoby, a spokeswoman with the Cherokee County School District. The booster club recruited a retired CPA to conduct its audit.
